Hello Leavenworth Families-

We wanted to let our families know that our school site will hosting a COVID vaccination Clinic on Tuesday, February 8 from 10:00-6:00 pm. This clinic is organized by Fresno Unified and Optum Serve but held on our campus. Any Leavenworth student eligible to obtain their vaccination will be able to on this day. Parents MUST be present and give full authorization by registering using the QR code found on the flyers attached. Pre-registration is not necessary but encouraged. Students receiving their first shot on this day will be able to return to Leavenworth on March 1 for their 2nd dose. Parents will be able to pick their child up at the office and walk them to our outdoor patio for their vaccine shot. The attached flyers will be sent home with all students.

Hola Familias de Leavenworth-

Queríamos que nuestras familias supieran que nuestro sitio escolar albergará una clínica de vacunación el martes 8 de febrero de 10:00 a 6:00 pm. Esta clínica está organizada por Fresno Unified y Optum Serve, pero se lleva a cabo en nuestra escuela. Cualquier estudiante de Leavenworth elegible para obtener su vacuna podrá hacerlo en este día. Los padres NECESITAN estar presentes y dar autorización completa registrándose utilizando el código QR que se encuentra en los volantes adjuntos. La pre-registracion no es necesaria, pero se recomienda. Los estudiantes que reciban su primera inyección en este día podrán regresar a Leavenworth el 1 de marzo para su segunda dosis. This year our school will open our annual PTO Elf Shop. Our students will be able to practice the act of giving and be able to plan, budget, and shop for their loved ones at our PTO ELF Holiday Shop. They can shop for Mom, Dad, Sister, Brother, Grandma, Grandpa, Special Person,  Friend, or Teacher.

An envelope was sent home today with all students. This will help your child plan and be ready for this day. Please see the schedule below for your child’s grade level. 

• WHEN: Student will preview the shop and see the items this Friday, December 10th 
  • Monday, December 13th Shoppers: 6th Grade, 5th Grade, 4th Grade
  • Tuesday, December 14th Shoppers: 2nd Grade and 3rd Grade
  • Wednesday, December 15th Shoppers: TK, Kinder and 1st Grade

Transfer Applications for Dual Immersion Programs Due by Dec. 1

This is a reminder that applications for our Spanish Dual Immersion Program are due to the Fresno Unified Transfers Office before Dec. 1 for the 2022-2023 school year. An application is also required if your child is in 6^th grade and you are wanting them to continue with our Yosemite Dual Immersion program. To maximize your chances of being accepted into the program an application must be submitted prior to the deadline of Dec. 1. Applications can be picked up in our office or by visiting the Fresno Unified Transfers website. Please contact our school office if you need any help or have any questions.

Este es un recordatorio que las solicitudes para nuestro programa de inmersión dual en español se deben entregarse a la oficina de transferencias del distrito antes del 1 de diciembre para el año escolar 2022-2023. También se requiere una solicitud si su hijo está en 6º grado y desea continuar con nuestro programa de inmersión dual de Yosemite. Para maximizar las posibilidades de ser aceptado al programa, se debe presentar una solicitud antes de la fecha del 1 de diciembre. PTO Fundraiser- Friendship Grams and Pie Raffle

Our PTO plays an important role in supporting our school community. Each year our PTO raises funds that go directly to support classrooms, students, and teachers. This month PTO is running our friendship grams that are being sold after school from now until Nov. 18. All friendship grams will be delivered on Friday, Nov. 19.

Each friendship gram is $1.00 it includes a lollipop and card of appreciation. Students can send a friend a note of appreciation.

PTO will additionally be having a pie raffle (Costco pies). Raffle tickets are $5.00. An envelope will be sent home for the pie raffle. If you would like to support our PTO, you can return the envelope completed with the money and it will serve as your ticket for the drawing. Additionally, there is an option to donate towards PTO.

Recaudación de fondos para PTO- Cariñograma y rifa de tartas/pasteles

Nuestra PTO es muy importante en el apoyo a nuestra comunidad escolar. Cada año, nuestro PTO recauda fondos que van directamente a apoyar a los salones, los estudiantes y los maestros. Este mes, PTO está ejecutando nuestros gramos de amistad que se venden después de la escuela desde ahora hasta el 18 de noviembre. Todos los gramos de amistad se entregarán el viernes 19 de noviembre. 
Cada gramo de amistad cuesta $ 1.00, incluye una paleta de dulce y una tarjeta de agradecimiento. Los estudiantes pueden enviar a un amigo una nota de agradecimiento. 
PTO también tendrá una rifa de pasteles/tartas (pasteles/tartas Costco). Los boletos de la rifa cuestan $5.00. Se enviará un sobre a casa para la rifa del pastel/tarta. Si desea apoyar a nuestra PTO, puede devolver el sobre completado con el dinero y servirá como su boleto para el sorteo. Además, hay una opción para donar a PTO.

STUDENT LEARNING OPTIONS AFTER PLACED ON QUARANTINE

Hello Leavenworth Families-

In today’s message, I would like to provide you with some clarity regarding our students accessing learning when they are placed on quarantine by the school because of being a close contact or testing positive for COVID.

Please note that the following options are implemented ONLY for students that have been placed on quarantine by the school or CAT team. Parents that choose to keep their child home (for reasons outside of quarantine) will continue to be marked as an absence or parent request. Parents that choose to not send their children to school because they are not comfortable, are encourage you to enroll their child in our eLearn option.

All parents of students being placed on quarantine will be notified by the site team. After being notified by the school, teachers will provide your child with either of the following options.

1. Simultaneous Live Instruction using Teams with their Teacher 
2. Independent Contract (hard copy of work) with daily check in by teacher (up to 30 minutes)

Teachers were allowed to select one of the options above to provide their students with during the time they are placed on quarantine by the school. Your child’s teacher will be communicating the option they will be implementing for their students.

Below are more details about each option:

1. Simultaneous Instruction OPTION (live instruction with students in classroom and at home)
   1. Teacher will provide instruction live to students using TEAMS for the duration of the class time (entire day). At home students will follow the same schedule (8:00-2:35 daily). If a child is too sick to log on it will be marked as an absence.
   2. In addition to the live stream of instruction, Teacher will provide assignments electronically through various platforms (Teams or email) or provided materials for pickup in office or drop off by Mr. Vang or Mrs. Drake.
   3. Teacher will collect work form students and grade it in ALTAS
   4. Teacher will communicate progress with parents, as needed.
   5. Students must have their device ready and working (it’s important to make sure your child has a working device). If you need support, contact FLATS center 457-3939.
   6. Students placed on quarantine needs to log on to Teams the following day or on the day placed on quarantine if school is in session.
2. Independent Study OPTION (as updated by AB 130)
   1. Teachers will prepare hard copies of work in advanced to be able to provide students with work/assignments on the first day of the quarantine. Work provided to students will be of the same rigor and quality that are being provided to students in class.
   2. Teacher will provide daily synchronous instruction to students, up to 30 minutes. 
   3. Teacher will communicate student progress to parents.
   4. Parents will need to complete and sign the independent study contract in the office.
   5. Parent/student will need to return the completed work back to school/teacher for record keeping and verification the work was completed.

POLICY- BRINGING FOODS FOR BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS

Please be aware of the following policy for food brought from home for sharing with other students. 

Birthday Celebrations and Food in Classrooms/After School Programs at Leavenworth

We love to acknowledge our student’s birthday, however, for the health and wellness of all students we ask that parents follow the guidelines below for bringing treats from home for celebrations. We are recommending healthy alternative options for our students. 

If you will be sending a treat or food to be shared with students in the classroom:

• Items should be store bought (not made at home).
• Items must be individually pre-packaged to be able to pass out as a grab and go treat. This means no cupcakes in large containers, no cakes, or cookies not individually wrapped).
• Many students/families have special diets they follow, please send healthy options (no sodas or sugar drinks). Consider small bottled waters.
• Consider sending gift bags that include non-food items (ex. pencil, eraser, crayons, stickers, small toy).
• Please let your child’s teacher know PRIOR to sending a birthday treat to the classroom.
• If items are not pre-arranged with teacher, we cannot guarantee delivery if dropped off at the office.

Hello Leavenworth Parents- 

Thank you for everything you have done in support of our opening of school. This year our opening of school was like no other. As we begin this school year, I will continue to encourage us all to work collaboratively with a positive outlook. To be our best for our students, we need to model patience, grace, and kindness in everything we do and all our interactions. Please know as a staff we are here to support our students and families. Please reach out should you need any support. 

Important Parent Information

• Please return the YELLOW EMERGENCY CARD to your child’s teacher. We need a card returned for each child enrolled in school. Parents should include their updated phone numbers and an email address. We need to have multiple parent contact numbers in case we need to communicate regarding your child health and wellness.
• Parent communication with your child’s Teacher is very important and should be established already. If this has not happened, please reach out to your child’s teacher or our school office so we can make sure your child’s teacher has your contacts for communication.  
• Email is an important form of communication for our school. Please make sure the school has your email on file and in ATLAS, so you receive all communication from Principal Piedra.
• All students should bring their fully charged computer to school daily. The computer will need to travel with them daily from home to school. If your child needs a device or a replacement, please go to our district FLATS center to pick up your child’s device. FLATS centers are located at Burroughs Elem, Homan Elem, and Tioga Middle School. If you need help, please call the school and let us know.
• Schoolwide notification system will be used when a staff or student tests positive for COVID. If CAT team or school admin determine your child was a close contact, we will call you and ask that you pick your child up as soon as possible. Your child will need to quarantine for 10 days or until cleared by the district CAT team. If your child has been placed on quarantine you must be cleared by CAT team before your child can return to campus.
• Parents if your child tests positive for COVID or is a close contact to someone that tests positive, please call the school to report it or email the principal.

Si su hijo ha sido puesto en cuarentena, debe ser absuelta antes de que su hijo pueda regresar al campus.
• Padres si su hijo da positivo por COVID o es un contacto cercano con alguien que da positivo, llame a la escuela para reportarlo o envíe un correo electrónico a la directora Piedra.

PARENT NOTIFICATION

Hello Leavenworth Families,

Earlier today we received word that a member of our school community tested positive for COVID-19. The individual has not been on campus for several days and as an added safety precaution, extra disinfecting was completed. We are in contact with the districts CAT (COVID Action Team) team and our health service team is conducting its contact tracing. Student and staff health conditions are confidential and in the event your student is deemed a close contact, you will be notified. Again, this message doesn’t indicate that your student is a close contact, simply that we have had a confirmed case on our campus.

If your student answers YES to any of the questions, please keep them home and contact the school office. Everyone must wear masks while indoors. Parents visiting office need to wear a mask. Additionally, for safety we are asking that parents not come inside our campus (school office is ok) at this time.

Hola Familias Leavenworth,

Hoy recibimos la noticia de que un miembro de nuestra comunidad escolar resulto positivo para el COVID-19. La persona no ha estado en nuestra escuela durante varios días y como precaución de seguridad adicional, se completó una desinfección adicional. Estamos en contacto con el equipo CAT del distrito y nuestro equipo de servicios de salud están realizando el proceso de rastreo de contactos. Las condiciones de salud del estudiante y del personal son confidenciales y en el caso de que su estudiante sea considerado un contacto cercano, se le notificará. Una vez más, este mensaje no indica que su estudiante es un contacto cercano, simplemente que hemos tenido un caso confirmado en nuestra escuela.

Por favor, asegúrese de que todos los estudiantes completen la herramienta de detección de autosalud del distrito que se encuentra en nuestro sitio web de la escuela. OPENING LOGISTICS

As we prepare to welcome our students, I wanted to provide you with some reminders. Our parking areas will be very busy on the first two days with early dismissal in TK-6 at 12:15 and no after school programs on these days. I ask that all parents be patient and courteous as they drop their child off at school. Please drive slowly and do not double park in our parking lots. We encourage parent to park and walk up to our school if needed.

Grade levels will be dismissed from various places. By the kinder area, front of the school and the cafeteria.

Students will line up in front of the school in their line for our opening. Parents please wait behind the red lines during opening and dismissal.

Back to School Night will be tomorrow from 5:15-6:20. Please see email for session times and virtual options. All parents attending in person will be required to wear masks indoors. For everyone’s safety please follow this requirement.

DISMISSAL for the first two days August 12 and 13:

Kindergarten and TK

• K 1,2,3,4 in the Kindergarten area behind the red line outside the teachers back door.
• Room #7-by the green gates in the kindergarten side.  
• TK classes-by the green gates in the kindergarten side.

 1^st Grade, 2^nd, 3^rd, 4^th, and SDC

• Front of school Green Gates in their designated grade level areas.

5^th and 6^th grade

• Dismiss from cafeteria doors

Starting Monday, August 16 5^th grade will dismiss from the Kindergarten gates in the Kindergarten area. All other grades will follow the dismissal locations above.

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM-ASES & EXTENDED DAY

We wanted to provide you with information regarding the two After School Programs at Leavenworth. 

1) After School and Safety Program with Mrs. Barajas (ASES) 

2) Extended Day Enrichment Program with Mrs. Marquez (EDEP) 

ASES (After School Program) 2021-2022 School Year with Mrs. Barajas

• All students registered at Leavenworth will be entered in the lottery for ASES. Families do not need to apply. ASES staff will call parents of students accepted into ASES. Lottery will take place early August.
• Acceptance lists will be posted on August 12^th on cafeteria windows. ASES staff will call parents of students accepted into program.
• August 12 and 13 Parent Orientation for parents of those students accepted into ASES program. Parents must complete paperwork (Emergency Cards, Release of Liability, Early Release Form, and the Confirmation of Policies and Procedures of the Parent Handbook) and orientation PRIOR to the ASES start date of Monday, August 16.
• There will be no ASES program on the first two days of school while parent orientations are taking place

After School Education and Safety Program (ASES) | Fresno Unified Extended Learning Fresno Unified School District operates daily, comprehensive after school programs at 31 Elementary and Middle schools across the district, another 38 schools are operated by the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools. The Extended Day Enrichment Program (EDEP) provides a student-centered, quality care program in a safe and supportive environment for students during the after school hours. To increase opportunities for students to participate in after school programs in Fresno Unified School District, the fees for the Extended Day Enrichment Program (EDEP) are waived for the 2021-2022 school year.  

New families must complete an in-person Parent Orientation at their EDEP school site on either August 12, 2021, or August 13, 2021. Parent orientation is required for all families who are NEW to the EDEP. Please note that EDEP staff will be available on-site to host parent orientations at the end of the regular school day.  

Parents do not need to attend parent orientation if they have participated in EDEP in previous years.  

Students may begin attending EDEP on Monday, August 16, 2021.

INFORMATION FOR FUSD eLEARN ACADEMY- ONLINE OPTION

This information is for parents that would like to enroll or gain more information about FUSD fully online eLearn Academy option.

Information regarding Fully ONLINE Option through Fresno Unified eLearn Academy 

• Fresno Unified will offer Fully Online School for parents that do NOT want their child to return to full time IN PERSON instruction.
•  This program is called eLearn Academy. Learn how to enroll and gain more info by visiting https://elearnacedemy.fresnoinified.org/ or calling 457-6139.
• IMPORTANT: Please note, enrollment in eLearn Academy means your child will not attend Leavenworth. They will be dropped from our school and enrolled in eLearn. Students in the Dual Immersion Program will be dropped and need to re-apply to our program if they wish to return. There is no guarantee of getting their spot back.

Want to know more about eLearn? Please call 457-6139 to let them know you would like the link to this informational meeting about eLearn Option. You will need to provide them with your email address. 

• eLearn Academy has scheduled the following informational ONLINE meetings where you can learn more about the program without making any commitment.
